Daily mail linking us with a £5 million bid ... apologies if this has already been mentioned.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/footba ... Defoe.html

He knows at the end of the day he would be a huge part of what we are trying to achieve at this club. My only concern is that until we flog Manset, Church and possibly one more I can't see this move happening as much as I would like it to.

anR
Kingsley Junior It has made it in to the BBC transfer gossip page for Thursday with a link to a Metro story - only mentioning it cos we rarely seem to make it on to the page so was quite nice to see, even if it is likely b0ll0cks.

Was it the Tottenham link that got him in? They only talk about London clubs in that paper. We're light years away from London, see?

Funnily enough I was referring to the BBC page rather than the Metro as regards to us not being mentioned often on the page - hence me not saying the word 'paper'. In London they can afford more than one page, see?

If he left Burke to be with that then surely Spurs to Reading is a possibility

I dont think he will join us... again like said wages would be a problem. £5Million is more like it though. See Reading4eva quotes something and the papers join the bandwagon, I'm not just a pretty face

Jano Most of the arrogant rumours come from him handing in a transfer request the day after West Ham were relegated. Not sure anyone here would blame him for that though!

Haven't we just re-signed someone that did that to us?

Seal I'm also not sure where this "he's a d1ck, I don't like him" stuff comes from. I thought he always came across as... religious

Hmm.

Like I said, 4-5m would make this a more attractive signing. But I don't think he is worth 10m to us, as 10m would be better spent on other areas of the team.

Still not sure if his wages would be financially sensible for us though, and hope it doesn't cause any unrest. Reading have always exceeded ability by having great team spirit, I'd hate that to change.

themadstad • Transfer fee would be large and we only offer 1 year deals to players at age of 30 or over, so why would we pay a record breaking fee also considering his age?

:|

He's a year older than Pogrebnyak who we've just given a four year contract to on club record wages.

Yes, he is a year older.

Yes, he is on a 4 year deal but did we pay a record breaking fee for him? Don't recall it. So chances are we can sell and gain on that. Defoe, very much less likely with his age. I mentioned we'd pay more than before but he'd be on a lot more and then there's the fee. Much more involved in terms of cost.

We may well have paid a club record signing on fee for Pog, which to all intents and purposes is the same as a transfer fee. Remember the Sun said a deal worth £60k a week. And we know we're paying him about £35k a week. So that would allow for a signing on fee of £5.2m

Anyone remember this article? http://www.getreading.co.uk/sport/footb ... ew_players

I thought we were not interested in Le Fondre? Smokescreen for Defoe.

but ill the signing on fee is linked to performances, playing, staying up, etc

In a way yes, but we are talking of much larger wages, a large transfer fee. The reported £60k is also paper talk. If Pog was contracted to Stuttgart then that would most likely have been different.
