Royal Lady I'm not sure what Roberts expects "Kick Racism out of Football" to do other than raise awareness and promote the fact it's so wrong. It's not like they can tell the FA or UEFA or anyone what punishments to dish out. Has he actually said what he thinks they should be doing, that they're not already? :|

Quite simply, if Kick It Out dissociates itself, or threatens to dissociate itself, from its ties with the FA because of the way the FA handles racism cases, the FA will have to up its game on the matter, because it cannot afford to be labeled an organisation that is soft on racism. I have listened carefully to what Roberts is saying, and I think this is the crux of it. He has said clearly that he'd like to see cases dealt with more quickly and with harsher punishments. On Terry, he said:

“The four-match ban was, for me, not a heavy enough sanction for what happened. I’m not happy. Certainly they should have given him a longer ban. The sanction is nowhere near harsh enough.” (via the Independent)

Of course, the FA doesn't mean to appear soft on racism, but they will have more effect on stamping it out if they give stronger punishments and make consistent rulings. Roberts is hoping his present stance--which has certainly made everyone think--might ignite that debate.

"It seems like the authorities don't have the stomach to take this on, and if the players don't take it on then nobody will." (via Sky News)

The players can certainly do more than raise awareness, if they use their muscle. Neither the FA nor UEFA could shrug off a rebellion by players over their handling of racism. If such authorities are smart, they will realise that should Roberts's view spread they will quickly be in serious trouble. And they will hand out stricter punishments than the few thousand quid Lazio were fined this week for the racist chanting of their fans.

I'm one of the few who agree with him. It's a publicity stunt. How come Joey Barton gets a 12 game ban for a few handbags and Terry gets four for being a racist cnut? Is pushing and shoving really 3 times worse than being racist?
So the FA print a few T-shirts and we're all supposed to believe everything's alright now. I know the Serbia thing is an extreme example, but that's the kind of thing that occurs far too regularly, and no amount of t-shirts will change the view of ignorant bigots.
End of the day, some people are cnuts, they'll be racist no matter what. Problem is, too many of them hold positions of power both in football and in everyday life. I hope a decent number of players back Roberts up on this, because I certainly would.

I've been pretty non-plussed about this whole affair.

But now that silly old duffer and the French James Bond that they never had, have spoken out...........I am 100% behind our man

I don't disagree with anything Roberts is saying (surely nobody does) but I just wish he would butt out a bit and concentrate on the football.

I couldn't give a rats arse whether they wear bl00dy t-shirts or not. Just what difference does that make?! I want racism stamped out but I also want my team to concentrate and be focused on getting 3 points against Liverpool tomorrow.

i think he wants them to be an independant, not be up the FA and PL s arse, and so be able to say what they really think, and push for real punishments.

Stuboo
akranes To be completely honest thanks to Roberts, people actually know that we exist.

Fair point. Up till now he has done much more good than harm to us with his media committments. Personally I hope he doesn't ruin it.

Melonhead, while I agree players should be allowed to be their own people, doing anyting that could hurt the club is not on.

i disagree this is hurting the club though

unless its taking everyones mind off liverpool
in which case ill be annoyed along with the rest of you

How does the old saying go "Sticks and stones......"

Remember El Hadj Diouf spitting on someone in the Liverpool v Celtic game? Far worse than any racial slur imo (lowest of the low)- and he only got a 2 game ban..........

That's right, it can only ever be racism if it is done by a white person against a coloured person.
If for example a coloured islamist person rapes a woman because she "is a whore who doesn't wear the burkha and has no man present", then that is not racism, that is just a) cultural enrichment or b) cultural differences/misunderstandings. Either way it is a fantastic thing and we should all be glad to see it happen.

ideal the siege and kes is the big fat racists club
top membership list

and lol at people having to think rape is a fantastic thing that they are glad to see, what a moronic thing to say

TheSiege If you wind up someone on the pitch by calling them fat, ginger, slow or incontinent (all descriptions), that is O.k. If you call them Black (also a description) this gives them the opportunity to describe you as Racist and cause problems for your club! Racism (in the current situation) is the new diving!!!!!

Do you mean that? There is a delete feature.

Christ, piss off and support someone else, please. You are an embarrassement. FWIW I'm in the Jason Robert's can say what he wants gang. LOL at those that think that one of our most articulate footballer's of recent years shouldn't say what he feels.
