Loan signings bought in for the remainder of the season will be the way to go.

Reading boss Brian McDermott is hoping for transfer funds in January with his team languishing in the relegation zone.

"The club made a decision in the summer - we didn't invest in the summer."
Brian McDermott
Quotes of the week

The newly-promoted club were beaten 3-0 by fellow strugglers Sunderland on Tuesday evening to leave the Royals six points from safety with just nine points from 16 games.

And McDermott has urged owner Anton Zingarevich to add to the squad in the transfer window after admitting that the club may have failed to do enough to strengthen.

"The club made a decision in the summer - we didn't invest in the summer," said McDermott.

"We all know that January is a difficult window. We are fighting a battle here.

"That will be down to the owner to see where we are at. I believe we need to do that.

"We are in such a stronger position financially, whatever the outcome of this season is, than we were two years ago, a year ago.

"We want to get out of this, so we have to do everything we can in our power to get out of it, and if that includes January, my view is that we have to do what we have got to do."

From the little I know about him (right-back, 27, moved to Barnsley from Rochdale in June 2011 and has impressed while at Oakwell), I'd say he would single handedly keep us up.

When I was at uni I used to go and watch Rochdale a bit and he was there then. Remember he liked to get forward and put in a lot of crosses, but usually from deep - rarely would he venture ahead of the winger. His style is actually quite a lot like Gunter. Always quite liked him but never in a million years thought he'd eventually make a Premiership player.

He would know Le Fondre though - they played together in that same Rochdale side.

It would be easier if we sabotaged all the team coaches to crash one weekend injuring atleast 50% of the EPL teams giving us just enough time to salvage enough pionts to survive

Reading ITK chatter

by Gus the teenage cow » 13 Dec 2012 20:25

I am in email contact with one Reading FC ITK and another one who may or may not be an ITK occassionally sends me PMs but I have not yet verified if he has genuine ITK status

anyway the latest news is that BM is disillusioned because just 2 weeks ago he presented Anton and NH with a list of targets and he has yet to hear any feedback on progress on these targets (leading him to fear for his future)

He is even further angered by news that NH and Anton have been scouting and in contact with players that he has not indicated he is interested in

the pogrebnyak name has been leaked

we are also looking at a guy called sulemaini, liam trotter and tom huddlestone

this information comes from the most delicate of sources, we'll see if any of it transpires, please keep it to yourselves though

Hi Gus, we haven't been formally introduced. I'm Pepe. We both have farmyard animals in our username, we should start a clique.

Pepe the Horseman No :(

consider yourself decliqued

however, root around a bit and in time you may find yourself an ITK status

I'll start you off with a piece of code that may lead you to uncovering the identity of one of our key January transfer targets not yet revealed in the media

And that's why NH and AZ are in Russia talking to a couple of targets.

2/10 for effort.

paulholsgrove83 Relegation looks nailed on, will the owner bother spending millions on high wages knowing Championship football looms large. What would be the point in loaning players, none will be 100% committed. You may as well blood the youngsters now for next season. I've just got this feeling not much will be done, unless come January we are only still 6 points adrift.

Blooding youngsters did Alex Ferguson no harm a few years ago. Kuhl for one would not be out of his depth and play with no fear.

Absolutely agree with giving a couple of the youngsters some pitch time. Hunt's contract is up in the summer and so is Roberts. If the club know they wont be offering either a new deal then give Samuel some chances off the bench. Pog will also be off in the summer, so again it makes it all the more worthwhile.

A few players who we could realistically get and would do a job for us

Andrey Arshavin - Much needed creativity in the middle of the park, not getting much game time.
Marko Marin loan - See Arshavin.
Gylfi Sigurdsson loan - Not playing much at Spurs, could do with a loan.
Shola Ameobi or Kevin Davies - (Not exactly what we need but if we are going to insist on hoof ball they are perfect and very experienced).
James Henry - Something different on the wings, can actually put a cross in and I miss him.
Abou Diaby - Quality in midfield, not sure if hes still injured though.
