Best/Worst football tackle ever seen.

by double d » 22 Jan 2013 12:35

Hello. My friend and I were talking about the most nasty football tackles ever seen and thought I would post on here. His was David Busst years ago for Man City against Manchester United (Where Dennis Irwin threw up when he saw).

I had two. One was a Cameroonian defender in the 1990 WC who Poleaxed an Argentine Forward so hard his boot flew off.

The other is this delightful thing from that lovely guy Kevin Muscat..... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BxdgSBbFLP4

I also seem to remember Kitson (?) getting knocked out on the pitch once at a Reading game?

Best bit about the Cannigia tackle was that two other defenders had already tried to kill him, and he somehow hurdled both challenges.

And yes, should be in general football.

At Elm Park Tom Jones had his leg broken just in front of me by the halfway line. Wasn't particularly gruesome to look at but the sound of the crack echoed round the ground and made me feel a little queezy for a while.

A Wolves player (Frogatt) also broke his leg at the same place on the pitch (a Simon Osborn tackle?) again right in front of me.

Worst tackle I can remember wasn't even a Tackle. Ben Thatcher's forearm smash on some spurs player (Taricco?). Not miss-timed, not clumsy, just purely done to hurt the other player. There must be a video of it online somewhere.

Mostly for intent, as well as execution, Keane's on Haaland is up there.

And here is Thatcher's elbow on Mendes of Portsmouth.

Never seen it, but I'm sure when Chris Morgan of Sheff Utd fractured Ian Hume's scull that would have been shocking.

There is an old one (obviously) of Souness putting in a disgraceful tackle on someone on youtube

Aside from that I would say the sunday league fatty who had enough of me standing in front of their keeper everytime we had a corner so he stamped on my foot really hard. Went off as I thought he had broken stuff in there, I hadn't.

German goalkeeper Harold Schumacher's high challenge on France's Patrick Battiston during the 1982 World Cup is the worst challenge I've ever seen.

Scott Taylor, not Simon Osborn; pretty much finished Froggatt.

That should have been classed as grevious bodily harm, why that idiot referee didn't send him off and why FIFA didn't give an immediate ban on Schumacher are two more mysteries from the wonderful world of football that we'll never get to the bottom of

Happened two yards in front of us - the play went on as Froggatt was writhing around on that bit of track around the edge of the pitch for what seemed like an eternity and the missus was just about to jump over the wall and start helping him when they eventually arrived and carted him off after about 8 minutes or so.

Is that the one where he snaps his leg in half? Not clicking it just in case.
