Divvy Odds dropping again for Adkins (BetFair). Probably a reaction to the Telegraph article suggesting we will speak to him again next week.

Something along the lines of "Pleeeeease, we're really desperate!".

Reading ready to make fresh approach to former Southampton manager Nigel Adkins

Reading are expected to make a fresh approach to Nigel Adkins to become their new manager ahead of Saturday’s Premier League match away to Arsenal.

The former Southampton manager was spoken to last week by Reading before the club offered the job to Brighton’s Gus Poyet who subsequently stunned them by turning the post down.

The decision came as a severe blow to Reading who surprisingly sacked Brian McDermott 13 days ago – and just 33 days after he was named manager of the month - with Academy director Eamonn Dolan taking charge of the last league match away to Manchester United, which they lost 1-0.

With just eight league games to go and Reading facing a desperate battle against relegation – in 19th place and six points behind fourth-from-bottom Aston Villa - it had been assumed that owner Anton Zingarevich had a replacement lined up when he sacked McDermott.

However that was not the case, despite rumours linking Paolo Di Canio and Roberto Di Matteo, who wants a higher profile job and has been strongly linked to German club Schalke, to the post, and Zingarevich now has to decide whether he still harbours hopes of avoiding relegation or needs to appoint a manager with experience of gaining promotion from the Championship.

Adkins is understood to be unsure as to whether or not to accept the role and has spent the time since he was sacked travelling Europe and observing clubs such as Hamburg, where he has attended training.

Hardly a ringing endorsement of the new owner's or club's decision making process though is it?

As long as the club doesn't make that appointment, pretty good.

Respect to poyet for not coming. Doesn't make sense for him to come. Yes were bigger than Brighton but not much bigger and not so much so that we should think we can just nick a manager from them when theyre doing so well. Still we tried I guess. If he was to come his disloyalty would massively worry me. Best he didn't.

I thought the Adkins thing was dead and buried but that's not the case it seems. It think he'd could do much worse that join us. After all we are a good side, built solidly with a strong academy and seemingly lots of ambition. We're clearly going places and no we won't be the next wolves. And even if we are to be fair before long they will be in the prem again after the current mess.

The board will not fail to get someone I hope- Adkins first choice. If definitely dead Curbs must be an option. Failing that Coppell. Absolutely nothing wrong with getting him back- if given the money that poyet was supposedly promised. We have options we just need to use them carefully and quickly. I'd even say bring Brian back if we go down, but that seems unlikely :(

Depends what you compare it to. Anyone in the Premier is a 'good' side compared to the 92-odd others. And relative to our history, we're also currently a good side...

We still have a bright future and are expected to be at the sharper end of football for the foreseeable future. (and in for page 100)
