The irony is that we could all forgive a bad/indifferent/disinterested (*delete as appropriate) attitude if he was actually delivering results on the pitch.

But the combination of average performances and that attitude wins him no friends.

Think Southampton was by far Guthrie's best game for us, other than 10 mins at the end of WBA.

But I don't think hes anything special at passing, what he has got is top level vision. Yet like Matejovsky, this isn't particularly useful if the other 9 outfield players can't read it. At one point Guthrie did a long cross field pass to Gunter, perfectly in place for him but a long way in front, Gunter only realised at the last minute and was lucky to actually run on to it!

I also hate his attitude. He is used to playing in front of 50,000 so spends too much time with his head in his hands or glaring at his teammates while the opposition stroll past him!

Still anything we made came from his long passes, so he finalled showed his ability. He definitely needs to play in a midfield 3 though, but as he doesn't get close to the lone striker we'd need the wingers to try and get close to the striker, which happened quite well for 20 mins or so on saturday...

Or the combination of internet memes and gullibility.

Jano
melonhead once they scored he couldnt be arsed.

That kinda goes for the whole team though.

no. their confidence went, and nerves crept in. guthrie was the only one to stop playing, and start sulking and waving his arms about

That's rubbish, brendy. Just making an excuse to have a pop at Guthrie.

AirRaidSiren I do recall their being eleven players on the pitch and you seem to pick on the one, yet again, Guthrie made the scapegoat.

On another thread I actually said that Guthrie was the pick of our central-midfield on the day. Which in itself is a bit like being voted best looking person in the burns unit. However, this thread was about Guthrie and I hinted in my comment on this thread that Guthrie has showed Adkins precious little to be hugely impressed by thus far. These last two performances have also not so much laughed but certainly chuckled in the face of those rabid revisionists who think that Guthrie's exclusion from the side this season has been chiefly to blame for our desperate season.

100% agree- thought guthrie had his best game, and was easily the best of our midfielders.
but as sson as we went a goal down his head went and he started sulking.
this is why he isnt agood player. he could be, but his attitude holds him back.

if hed have continued doing the right things, and continued to press and pass so we could get back into the game, id praise him up to the eyeballs. but he didnt.

Surely this "attitude" is something you've made up, though?

Guthrie is a good enough PL player, but not right for this Reading side at this time. Happens with some transfers. Whether that is down to his attitude or the ability of the squad is up for debate, but I suspect it's a bit of both.

Definitely should move him on in the Summer, but if we can get a couple of million for him (step up Hammond), we should be able to use that to bring in the right player for Adkins' style of play.

now that is just daft.

hes the only player to have refused to play, and is the only player i can visibly see moaning at his teammates and sulking on the field when things dont go his way.

so no.

Fair enough. But think the latter crit is an embellishment nurtured from the former.

He doesn't have a 'big bollox' attitude. He made a mistake not travelling to the Sunderland game. Gimps like you won't just let it rest.

Teams comprise, and need, different personalities. I wouldn’t exactly call Feds shy and retiring, Kebe is slightly nuts, Guthrie ‘sulks’ a bit. Big deal. You are imagining/making up a distinct change in ‘attitude’ while he was on the pitch on Saturday.

Sorry brendy but that really is bollocks.

I've seen just about every player have a pop at another for making a mistake or taking a wrong option. No team functions without it, at least not a winning one. I remember Pearce having a pop at his teammates being discussed on here as well as Federici and McAnuff amongst others. I've seen Le Fondre consistently get the arse when he's not played in when in a good position and anyone that's played any half decent standard will know that on the pitch you have to be able to give and take a bit of shit in order to compete.

I don't think I've seen any of our players really sulk though.

nope. ive taken all emotional input aside, since ive learned from my view on liegertwood that most people take a view, then watch a game to only gather events that back up their own view.
he is still literaly the only player ive seen all season who gives up when things dont go right turns his back, shoulder slumped, waving arms in a big hissy fit, and berating his fellow players for every pass that went somewhere other than to his feet.

lol!

slurp slurp.

couldnt care less about the past tbf- quite happy to let it go at the time, once hed been rightfully sanctioned by the club. was very happy for him to be put back in the team when he came back from injury, and quite happy for adkins to incude him this week.
all it requires is for him to have one game where he plays well, influences the game positively, and doesnt give up/have a hissy fit at some point when things go wrong.
this is yet to happen though. hence my comments.
i dont h8 the bloke at all. think hes a good player- and was probably our best player for about 30 mins on saturday. ive goty no problem with that. because i can critique both the good and bad, because i havent got my tongue wegded up his arse, and nor do i unconditionally h8 him, regardless of what he does.

in all of the other examples the player continues play, and keeps putting effort in. guthries shoulders slump, and you dont see him again for the rest of the game.
hence why adkins dragged him off imo

Plays well - yep.
Influences the game positively - yep.
Doesn't have a hissy fit - yep.

You imagined it. You're looking for it. It doesn't exist.

Add 'looking frustrated' to Guthrie's list of crimes.
