Far from the royal crowds The australian football association have requested compensation from FIFA if the World Cup is moved to the winter, on the basis that they spent $43 million bidding on a summer competition.
In addition, they also want compensation for disrupting the football season here, as all the stadiums are used by rugby and afl teams in the winter - if the football season is moved, they won't have anywhere to play.
If $43 million doesn't let you host a World Cup, how much must Qatar have paid?

Whore Jackie Uefa's 54 member associations give their backing to moving the 2022 World Cup in Qatar to the winter.

just some bloke Surely it's time for FIFA to use this 'slave labour' controversy as a convenient way out, and call the whole Qatar thing off and re-open the English and Australian bids for 2022 (and, OK, anyone else who wants to have a go).
There is precedent for this isn't there? Wasn't the 1986 World Cup originally awarded to Colombia?

tee peg There will be no chance of changing the venue as the camel jockeys would have dished out

None of which means it can't be switched. It's not like they could go to the Police and say I want my bribe back FIFA welshed. ANd FIFA can gather a shed load more manila envelopes by going through the process again.

They pulled out in 1982, I always assumed it was because of an earthquake but HNA? informed me that Mexico was hit by the earthquake and carried on.

Half right, Colombia got awarded '86 but dropped out because they couldn't afford so Mexico stepped in, ready to go from only hosting 16 years previous. They then had an earthquake that put the tournament in doubt but they soldiered on, allowing Diego Maradona to upset English fans for many years to come

St. Brynjar If Qatar don't get the world cup then Fifa need to compensate them for all the post-bid costs, bribe or no bribe. If Qatar do get the cup, but not in Summer 2022 then the process should either reopen or the other bidding countries should be compensated. They've made a complete pig's ear of it.
