Now that the Taliban have an office in Doha, I wonder if the likes of Mark Perrymen and his band of England supporting do-gooders will stop by for tea and maybe even organise a kick about?

The australian football association have requested compensation from FIFA if the World Cup is moved to the winter, on the basis that they spent $43 million bidding on a summer competition.

In addition, they also want compensation for disrupting the football season here, as all the stadiums are used by rugby and afl teams in the winter - if the football season is moved, they won't have anywhere to play.

If $43 million doesn't let you host a World Cup, how much must Qatar have paid?

As the saying goes, it's who you pay, not what you pay that matters.

Uefa's 54 member associations give their backing to moving the 2022 World Cup in Qatar to the winter.

I would love it if the clubs didn't release their players (lots of miraculous "injuries")

I would imagine the Qatar world cup bid represents the greatest corruption in the history of sport.

Pretty clever vote options though, if the choices were would you rather play in the summer in 50 degree heat or the winter in 25 what would you choose. It lets them spin that UEFA are for moving it, when they would be against if there was a better location for playing it in summer.

Shambles all round and I hope the Aussies sue them.

So.... slave labour and 1 death a day among the slave workers

Will anything get done? If I was Australian FA I would be screaming this from the rooftops. Maybe with some pictures beamed onto the side of FIFAs HQ

Punts the lot of 'em

Surely it's time for FIFA to use this 'slave labour' controversy as a convenient way out, and call the whole Qatar thing off and re-open the English and Australian bids for 2022 (and, OK, anyone else who wants to have a go).

There is precedent for this isn't there? Wasn't the 1986 World Cup originally awarded to Colombia?

There will be no chance of changing the venue as the camel jockeys would have dished out

They pulled out in 1982, I always assumed it was because of an earthquake but HNA? informed me that Mexico was hit by the earthquake and carried on.

None of which means it can't be switched. It's not like they could go to the Police and say I want my bribe back FIFA welshed. ANd FIFA can gather a shed load more manila envelopes by going through the process again.

Half right, Colombia got awarded '86 but dropped out because they couldn't afford so Mexico stepped in, ready to go from only hosting 16 years previous. They then had an earthquake that put the tournament in doubt but they soldiered on, allowing Diego Maradona to upset English fans for many years to come

If Qatar don't get the world cup then Fifa need to compensate them for all the post-bid costs, bribe or no bribe. If Qatar do get the cup, but not in Summer 2022 then the process should either reopen or the other bidding countries should be compensated. They've made a complete pig's ear of it.

At any other even half well-run organization, the person or people at the top would resign over such a monumental cock-up, but somehow I can't imagine Sepp Blatter doing the honourable thing.

The cunt.
