why does the FA Trophy have qualifying rounds?

I can understand the need for preliminary rounds, to get entrants down to a number that will divide down by two round by round, but why not just call the round after that Round 1?

The FA Cup is a bit different as it always used to start after Christmas, and you can understand the idea that it becomes the "proper" competition once the league sides join, but it seems a little pointless for the Trophy.

I'll be keeping an eye on the results. It's my turn to drive "somewhere" for a random non-league game on the day of the next round, and I think I owe my mate a drive up north somewhere. I quite fancy Wakefield, as they play at Wakefield Trinity's ground, with huge covered terrace behind one goal.

Think it's just done to mirror the FA Cup so when the Conference sides enter it is Round 1. Could argue for that being Round 3 though I guess.

I'd also ask the same reason as to the FA Cup rounds being named Qualifiers. Would give awareness to non league if the rounds were named 'correctly' granted it would feel a bit silly the old first round being pushed up but people would get used to it!

Whyteleafe 4-2 Windsor A game that was a lot tougher than the scoreline suggests. Leafe started brightly and took the lead in the 11th minute when a good run and pinpoint cross was tapped home by the goal machine, Roscoe D'Sane. However after that Windsor started to control possession and were making things happen mainly thanks to their no.8 who was bossing the midfield. It wasn't then much of a surprise to see them equalise shortly before half time following an uncharacteristic mistake from Leafe keeper, Sheikh Ceesay, who had looked very solid up to then. 1.1 at ht soon became 2.1 to the visitors in the 2nd half when they nicked the ball in midfield and opened up the Leafe defence. This prompted Leafe manager, John Fowler to ring the changes and bring on fresh legs in the form of youth team forward Ollie Thornton and the returning Sam Clayton. The return had the desired effect and Leafe were soon back on level terms when the impressive Taylor Smith leaped higher then anyone else to head home stylishly. Leafe then took the lead after persistance from Ollie Thornton in the box allowed hime to poke home the 3rd. Windsor then started to push players forward leaving them vulnerable on the break. Bentley Graham should have made it 4 but a bobble just as he was about to strike the ball saw his shot fly over the bar. Sam Clayton did grab a 4th to make the game safe towards the end after latching on to a D'Sane through ball and sticking it through the keepers legs much to the delight of the vociferous home support behind the goal. The Windsor keeper seemed rattled by this and after starting the half praying to the heavens and crossing himself he finished it asking the Leafe fans out for a fight. Somewhere along the 45 minute path he lost his way, which is more than you can say for the Leafe who's impressive season continues apace.

Sorry (especially since Blakey is involved) ... think I fell foul of the same glitch that the Ryman league site must have done earlier this AM, which I used when I was getting the scores together.

Looks as if they picked up scores from the FA's own website - which is evidently leaving "results'' as 0-0 when they haven't got the final score available!

Just checked both sites and the Ryman is now correct as is the FA site for this particular match BUT elsewhere on the latter there are still several matches without the correct results posted = still showing 0-0!

No way were Whyteleafe 4-2 better than us. It's the best I have seen us play in ages. Sheehan was outstanding in midfield, Lucas exceptional on the left, Matty Day at right back did loads of really good stuff and Kane Jones capped an excellent performance with a very well taken goal. Once again though, and not for the first time this season, silly mistakes cost us dear. #weneedtolearn

In fairness, their keeper had the game of his career, pulling off a string of amazing saves - one of which was amongst the best I have ever seen 'live' and we hit the woodwork at least 3 times in the second half.

A defeat is a defeat though and the calls for Drax to go grow louder every week.
