Harpers So Solid Crew Poor old Sam has really had it, only a small whisper, but Nigel could be on their radar.

Ian Royal I'd be pissed off if the McDermott butt lickers managed to get their way and have him prematurely sacked in the near future for very little. Unless of course we unexpectedly nosedive towards 18th or so in the next couple of months.

Ian Royal I'm entirely consistent in my view. I'd consider a successful season to be at least a play off campaign, and finishing mid-table this season would absolutely be a failure. But I don't think managers in their first full season should get the sack even for a failure of a season, unless that failure is going to seriously set the club back - ie by risking relegation. Especially following a relegation when it is notoriously difficult to bounce back.
And the comment about McDermott butt lickers is in no way any slur on McDermott. It's entirely a slur on those who are so pathetic that when a manager they liked got the sack for underperforming, rather than move on and continue to support the club and just about the best new manager we could hope for, they've been finding absolutely every opportunity, no matter how ridiculous or spurious, to get jibes in at him and create discontent against him to get him sacked because he isn't their precious poster boy.
For about the hundredth time, I liked McDermott. He was a good manager who served us well and did some amazing things. But nothing lasts forever, his performance seriously dipped, his brand of football was unlikely to move us further on as a club and it was a reasonable time to say goodbye. So I moved the oxf*rd on, because I'm not into football solely to support McDermott. I'm into football to support Reading Football Club and that means supporting our current manager until he shows categorically he's not up to the job. Which he absolutely hasn't done. Even if his performance has been distinctly disappointing so far.
We're also only currently on for our joint worst league finish in 5 seasons, not the worst in 11. And the fact that you see it reasonable to complain about finishing below 9th shows just how utterly spoilt you've become over the last 11 years. I for one like to wait and see with some degree of certainty what the actual result of the season is going to be before I complain about poor league finishes.
We're 9th, one whole point off the Play Offs. It's incredibly unlikely, but with a stonking run (you know like the one from 2 years ago), we could still just about win the league. Let alone get promoted. And even if we don't, it's hardly the end of the year. We can reasonably expect to be in amongst the challengers next year.
