Pepe the Horseman Amen. What was his record before this season out of interest?

9 goals from 74 appearances.

I wonder how many Shane Long got from his first 74?

Appearances can be misleading, but...

09 Goals in 74 Appearances Blackman
10 Goals in 84 Appearances Long

By the end of that fourth season Long had made 108 Appearances for 19 Goals

108 Appearances for 19 Goals = a goal every 5.684 Appearances (4,204 Minutes)
096 Appearances for 16 Goals = a goal every 6.000 Appearances (4,285 Minutes)

Long was played almost exclusively as a striker, Blackman has played a lot on the wing

So Nick, IMO, compares very reasonably with Long's first four seasons

Long Details

11 03 2005-06
23 04 2006-07
32 03 2007-08
18 00 2008-09 First 18 Appearances

84 10

maffff Saw him in the players lounge on Tuesday. Nice bloke, brimming with confidence at the moment.

Bordering on arrogance would you say?

All the best players are a little bit arrogant.

This is all very well but what constitutes an appearance?!

Does coming on as a sub count as an appearance??

I wonder, if he ever makes the premiership, if he'll score 10 goals a season?

Pepe the Horseman How many minutes did Long play in his first 74 apps, vs Blackman's first 74 apps?

First 74 Games

74 Appearances 2,563 Minutes 10 Goals = 256 Minutes/Goal LONG
74 Appearances 3,456 Minutes 09 Goals = 384 Minutes/Goal Blackman

First 96 Games

= Blackman's Reading Career to date,
= Long into his fourth season which started with a long goalless part

Long went on to get another 5 goals that season in 12 appearances totalling 895 minutes (177 mins/goal)

96 Appearances 3,400 Minutes 14 Goals = 242.88 Minutes/Goal LONG
96 Appearances 4,265 Minutes 16 Goals = 266.52 Minutes/Goal Blackman

We should not forget that Blackman has mostly played wide, Long as a striker

Yeh, fair point. In that case, how many assists did Blackman get in those 74 appearances?

Number of touches?

And can you present that in the form of an aggregate heat map.

Seriously, I'm more interested in what happens if you take penalties out. I think the gap would widen even further.

Oh, and we mustn't forget that Blackman has played wide

I think it's also worth pointing out that Blackman has played a lot of those games out wide.

I dunno if it's been mentioned, but Blackman has previously been on the wing, he is now more central

In summary, as usual, too many write off a player too early

Yes, how can you write a player off after a mere 2 years and a load of indifferent performances playing for an ambitionless and pennyless side.

Really glad now though that he has a manager with belief in him and a better quality set of players around him that really help his confidence and enables him to show just what he can do

Hoping to see the same change in HRK once he stops getting injured.
