 the Villa board.

Employ a manager in October/November and then totally fail to support him in the transfer window

Then have to pay up his 3 year deal 6 months later

Aston ViLOLLOLa

Hoping they find the second division a lot harder thant they think next season.

Mutual consent

So they won't pay him for the full 3 years

What's the point? They've got no hope of staying up. At least he's had a few months with the squad to get to know the players and plan for the Championship. It's ludicrous to appoint someone mid-season and sack them before the end because they haven't worked a miracle.

As said its mutual consent so I'm guessing he wanted out too

This way it means they can get someone in on a cheaper wage and maybe with added lower league experience, ready to start building for life in the championship

Someone like a Nigel Pearson or Chris Hughton

Sometimes it's pretty obvious things aren't going to work out and Garde has no pedigree for a Championship promotion campaign.

What would be the point in sticking with it just out of a stubborn defence of the original appointment. Much better to just realise and correct the mistake in appointing him in the first place.

Pearson would appear to be ideal for the job.

Plus they've recently changed the board or at least rearranged the behind the scenes stuff.

Little and Bernstein in. Once that happened, Garde had no future.

that is the kind of stuff B rated pundits come out with.

x hasn't happened before therefore it is absolutely unthinkable that x could happen at any time in the future, in fact just don't ever even bother attempting x.

If you say so.

I do think you look for some relevant background and experience before making any appointment in any walk of life though don't you? In this case they need a manager with some proven skills for the job at hand and understanding the competition and what works in it is one of those skills.

I doubt there are many examples of someone coming in and doing that job without some relevant experience so Garde would be a massive gamble as an appointment to take Villa up right now (and was when they appointed him).

The problem for Villa is I don't see them bouncing straight back up either. When Newcastle came down, they kept the bulk of the squad together coupled with the right manager for the job and it worked. Villa will have a fire sale/sacking of most of the current squad and then have to hope their name is enough of a pull to get players in to start again, regardless of who the new manager is. West Ham found it difficult when they've come down. I reckon Villa will be down for at least 2 or 3 seasons given how much of a mess they're in. Plus Lerner is still trying to sell the club, which will be even more difficult now they're in the Champo.

Bar a few exceptions I'm not sure they'd want to keep the bulk of the current squad.

The biggest problem might actually be offloading them.

Definitely. There's a few very big earners in the squad, plus a load of unproven (in England anyway) French youth. Even the homegrown local Villa supporting players like Grealish aren't guaranteed to hang around.

Absolutely.

They've got a load of players who've let them down this year and probably won't be wanting to hang around for the graft of the Championship (bit of a sweeping generalisation there) but it could take them a long time to get them off the books.
