Stranded

Stranded Give it to Ince if he wants it.

Given where we were to be P8 W3 D2 L3 is more than decent.

4 undefeated as well. Perfectly timed.

Wouldn't want to give it to him if we then slump to P6, W1, D1, L4 though. Strong 8+ point finish please.

Fair, but I don't see it.

Concern is if we are safe quickly, some players may look to protect themselves ahead of summer moves which could lead to a slump.

I think we'll finish stronger than 4 points, but not convinced it will be 8+, as you say the players could ease back into the shell they're not far out of.

Over a season that averages out about 64 points at that rate. Hell that ain't something to complain about with the dross we've had lately for years

He has done the basics. Tightened up the defence and as pretty much everyone said, we’re good enough up top to nick a goal or two

Would like to see us get safe and then see how we set up. But certainly can’t argue with tbe job he has done so far

Too early to say whether to give it to him or not but I reckon he’ll get offered the gig if Reading stay up.

Whether he’s the right man or not will remain to be seen but he’s a better bet than some and that’s about all you can say at the moment.

If History can be relied upon, he'll keep us up with a slightly disappointing finish. Get the gig. Start next season badly and be gone sometime between October 2022 and January 2023.

Whereas if he keeps us up and then leaves. The next guy will get us to the top 10 and a whisker from promotion, be hailed as the messiah and then have us in a relegation fight in 23/24, getting sacked in March / April 24.

I've seen those films several times already though, so would be grateful if we could get out of this time loop.

It’s a slightly different situation next season though isn’t it? Likely to be no cash signings, restricted on wages and needing a full rebuild of the side. We’ll have lost by far our most creative player:

Anything other than bottom 3 will be a success

Ince if he does keep us up probably would be a reasonable shout. Knows who we should be trying to keep and knows the division and expectation

Would certainly rather him than another random punt from abroad

I do think at the moment that Ince will probably end up getting it and recently, with some justification, however I'd still be skeptical and I'd rather us go for someone else personally, I just feel like Ince being the interim is where we should part ways.

The rebuild may not be as big as what everyone is suggesting depending on who is staying and who is going. It's not as if the likes of Holmes and Rino are well outside our pay grade for offering new deals, neither is Laurent really, particularly when you look at what our average wage per player should be as well for next season.

The biggest challenge is moving Moore on somewhere and hopefully not subsidising a large portion of his wages. If we can keep Holmes, Rino, Laurent, Hoilett and Azeez tied down to a new deal whilst potentially signing the likes of Ince, Nyland and possibly Drinkwater on free transfers when there contracts expire at their respective clubs, we've got a pretty solid base to build from. Bring in 4/5 loanees and some free transfers from other Championship/PL clubs who release players, then we should have a more than competitive squad going into next season.

From a players perspective, would keeping Ince be seen as a positive or a negative when compared to bringing in another (unknown) manager? Do you think any on them would renew simply based on if Ince were to stay or not - is the wage packet/prestigious club the be all and end all for a footballer?

Ince will get it and rightly so.

A couple more wins, keep us up. I don't see an issue at all.

He got the likes of Drinkwater playing well, he has got the team fighting, he is down to earth and very likeable says it how it is. Give the lad a chance I say for sure if he keeps up the good form.

Key considerations for me on offering it to Ince.

1) we need to finish the last 6 with no more than 3 defeats and at least 2 wins.
2) we need to win a game by more than 1 goal
3) we need to keep the goals conceded below 9 across the remaining six
4) he needs to want it.

Anything less than that and whilst he's done a great job keeping us up, I'm not sure the longer term signs are strong enough.

On the other hand, our appointments are usually terrible.

A strong finish to the season will see Ince get the job but I am not convinced he is the answer long term. Certain that if he gets it permanently he won't be here this time next year.

5 wins by 2-1, and a 4-0 loss wouldn't be good enough for Ian then. :|

I love how we're all assuming Dai knows what he's doing and has a decent replacement lined up.

Because of our owners expectations and general shelf life of a Reading manager these days. I think we will be about where we are now this time next season which won't be enough to keep Ince in a job. I am also not convinced by Ince as a football manager, he is a fairly decent 'firefighter' as it were but long term I would have question marks based upon what I have seen and heard thus far.

Very much suspect there will also be a fair bit of firefighting next season as well
