Schards#2 Two massive turning points for, the six point deduction and the Carroll red card. Without Carroll being sent off we may well have beaten both Luton and Wigan.

It would be interesting to know who knew what and when about the likelihood of the six points. Since the new year I have had the impression that we were aiming to get to 50 points, largely through grinding out draws rather than trying to win. If the club knew that a deduction was inevitable months ago, clearly, that's a pretty dumb strategy to have followed.

Didn't Bowen say that they pretty knew in January?

The Carroll red card wasn't a turning point imo

I think the morale had been shot by then

They'll have known for a long time that we were going to get points deducted I'm sure.

winning those two games would have put us on 48 points, still needing to win at Huddersfield to stay up.

We knew it was hanging over us - we had a good start to the season we should have pushed on rather than settled for the least points we thought we'd need. Moronic management.

I mean - Huddersfield did play better in the second half yesterday then i've seen Reading play in the last 6 months. Points deduction or no deduction, I do suspected that we are at least the 3rd worst team/squad in the league.

All of the business side of the club will have known from the second they signed up for the business plan. There's no way we were ever going to recoup enough in player sales to meet it. I'm still a bit bemused that the EFL looked at our squad a year a go and thought it was in anyway possible.

They didn't. They knew we would fail it and even if we achieved it we would be relegated anyway because we'd have lost every decent player we had, with no way to get quality replacements because we weren't allowed to reinvest.

I cannot help feeling this relegation has been slowly coming ever since the play off final defeat 6 ears ago. The club has gradually become like a sickly dog whose health has deteriorated slowly until it had to be put down.

Now we have a fresh start as most of the big earners will be gone this summer and provided we can retain some of the young talent coming through, we have the bones of a creating a decent League 1 squad. Add a few and I think we will be at the top end of the league. I suspect if we start winning regularly that the crowds will actually be higher in League 1 than they have been in the Championship recently as Reading folks love a winning side.

So upwards and onwards.

If you think about it we weren't relegated until Covid hit and lockdowns were enforced. Worth thinking about.

Maybe!

I expect our Tuesday night attendances to stink though. Expect 8,000 fans to turn up to midweek games against the likes of Exeter and Barnsley

Without covid we wouldn't have been relegated

And that’s if we are doing well. I expect us to be mid table at best we could be looking at all time lowest crowds for the stadium.

But it was possible. We threw away points with abject performances. This squad especially with the start we had should have stayed up.

Yes, and you would hope that Paul Ince found out around the same time. At which point I'm confused as to how/why Dai decided to keep him around beyond Cardiff away.

The owner is supposed to be a big gambler. Perhaps when we were top in September he placed a huge bet on us to be relegated.

That’s me done
I’m not giving anymore of my money to the club until that corrupt Chinese tosspot is out of the picture.
I really can’t understand why some on here still support this idiot who has totally destroyed the club along with that moron so called agent he seems to allow to make decisions.

January to May
P20 W2 D8 L10
Add in 6 Pt. deduction
8 poxy Points from 20 games over 4 and a bit months.
Ain't rocket science.

Ah well, football goes in cycles. Much bigger, more prestigious clubs than ours have been in Division 3.
Ark was reflecting about the relegation from Div 3 in 1970, my first season.
IIRC, We were beaten by the league's champions that season at their place in the very last game.
Aston Villa. Wonder what happened to them?
Moving forwards, the most important signing the club make will be the first team manager. Nothing else matters.

Might have something to do with supporting the club through thick and thin
Sadly, that’s what those of us that don’t support Man City, Man Utd, etc. put up with

Does make the good times feel that much better though

Here’s hoping
