Strange position Liverpool find themselves in where they have had a brilliant transfer window yet still have arguably two big gaps to fill. They need another centre-back - albeit movement expected on Guehi by the end of the window. And they need another forward - they actually really need to get the Isak deal done, with Diaz gone, Nunez on his way to Al-Hilal (after looking sharp in pre-season), and Jota.

Some rumours that Liverpool are planning a move for Parma's Giovanni Leoni if the Guehi transfer looks impossible - but they are wildly different propositions, Leoni only 18 and having only handfuls of senior games to his name. Nathan Collins mentioned too - but he has just been made Brentford captain.

Ekitike looked electric against Bilbao.

Also being linked with other youngster CBs, Rennes’ Jérémy Jacquet and Charlie Cresswell of Toulouse. Could still do with a DM too with Gravenberch being suspended for the start of the season, Bajcetic still injured and Nyoni being only 17. However they appear obsessed with strikers and AMs so really not sure how they hope to balance things properly at the moment.

Nunez to Al-Hilal agreed, pending personal terms, which shouldn't be a problem. Elliott to RB Leipzig a distinct possibility.

Reading that if those two go through, Liverpool's net spend this window would be just £45m including if they signed Isak.

Oh, to be a well-run club again! Fergie made a 'net profit' in his final five years at Utd.

If you're successful, you can offload players that don't fit future plans for decent money

or...

...if you're not, you get lumbered with shite on huge contracts that nobody wants!

Plus Liverpool manage to get “buy back” clauses into some of the contracts of the players they sell

Saudi has changed the game too. Five years ago Liverpool would have been looking at a huge loss on Nunez. Minimal with the money in the game now.

They've also covered Diaz leaving Bayern for Saudi Arabia with a sell-on clause. Hughes/Edwards looking like some partnership.

Yeah, was reading the other day about the Diaz negotiations with Bayern.

From inside Bayern, there is quiet recognition that the Luis Díaz transfer was orchestrated entirely on Liverpool’s terms, with Bayern left to follow along. Richard Hughes controlled the negotiations from start to finish, setting the framework early and never letting go of the upper hand. On Bayern’s side, Jan-Christian Dreesen led the talks but lacked the authority, leverage, or instinct to shape the deal in any meaningful way. Hughes quickly secured clear signals from the Díaz entourage that the player would be open to a move to Saudi Arabia in the near future. Armed with that assurance, Liverpool insisted on a significant sell-on clause that would allow them to benefit substantially from any future transfer. Bayern, facing internal pressure to deliver a name and lacking serious alternatives, accepted the structure as it was presented.

The final agreement includes a base fee of 72 million euros, with a further 9 million in add-ons that are considered so easily achievable that the full 81 million is already being treated as a formality. With the sell-on clause factored in, the total fee Liverpool could receive may rise to 95 or even 100 million euros if a high-value transfer occurs, which is viewed internally as a likely outcome. Inside Bayern, there is no denial of how the deal played out. While the move is being presented publicly as a strong signing, those involved know exactly how the negotiations unfolded. Liverpool dictated the terms, protected their future interests, and extracted maximum value. Bayern, on the other hand, paid heavily, agreed to a structure they did not design, and came away with a player who may already be positioned for resale.
It was, in every sense, a deal done on Liverpool’s terms.

Getting €15m for Tyler Morton and £35m for Quansah is insane. Richard Hughes, the next Nicky Hammond.

What is there to say? A Liverpool fan did a racism, the club dealt with it swiftly. I assume you're here to applaud their efforts?

I agree! I think the number of dickheads fans is about equally distributed. It just amused me to make that point in a heavy-handed way

Imagine I'm a white teacher going into a tough innercity black neighborhood in an '80s/'90s film

Not to mention that the player who was the target of the racist abuse commended Liverpool for the way they dealt with it.

For all the attacking options open to him ,Slot has a selection problem for the game at Newcastle tonight.
Frimpong is unfit and both Gomez and Bradley are thought to be not at 100%.

His choice of Endo to play there the other day in the second half didn't work.
Curtis Jones has filled in there a couple of times but not that successfully, not being the strongest of tacklers.
Szboszlai played there a couple of times in pre-season friendlies but can be a bit reckless in the tackle.

My choice would be Andy Robertson, a proper full-back albeit very left-footed but an experienced defender who has played there for small parts of games when Trent has moved across to take a corner on the left (idiot commentators sometimes suggesting that the full-backs had been switched permanently).

There have been some really good games between these two ,not least the 4-3 when Collymore scored the decider very late on and effectively put paid to Keegan's challenge for the title and there is the slight under-current of a transfer issue between the two clubs(I mention this in case posters haven't heard about it ) .

God I hate Liverpool and their pathetic plastic fanbase.
They really are obnoxious bunch.
Proclaiming Slot as the new Messiah when in fact noone turned up last season....and it was Klopps team.
He really didn't have tweak anything. Let's see what he does now.
Then a few weeks I'm getting videos recommended of their fans saying they are gonna piss the league and no club has ever had a transfer window like theirs.
Enter Arsenal....a completed jigsaw that has had a Stormer of a transfer window and look serious contenders. I still think City and Chelsea have quietly gone about their business as well and will have a say...hopefully anyone but Liverpool to win the league.
Also I don't know how the "secret" fans above are claiming a 45m net spend......even with Isak.....
Their current expenditure is 303million Euros and 196million Euros as income......a net spend of over 100mill Euros without the addons included.....

There’s also been a suggestion that Slot will have Gomez and Bradley each play a half  but I think he’ll take up the Szboszlai option.

Also with the Isak saga going in the background and some Geordie fans blaming Liverpool for it, rather than the shortcomings of their own club, this game could be rather “tasty” on and off the pitch. Newcastle are going to be right up for it as well just to prove a point to Isak as much as anything.

Given it’s a BH today, it would have made more sense to have had the kick off at 3pm.

TBF to Slot, while it was Klopp’s squad he still had to make right calls and he did win the PL with them which Klopp didn’t do.

Don’t get the scousers reckoning they’re going to walk the league either. They might have an outstanding forward line but the defensive issues they have are more than a leveller for it. They had a brilliant start to the window but this last couple of weeks they’ve done pretty much sod all and all the sales they’ve made has seriously weakened the overall squad depth they had last year. Now they seem to be treading water waiting to get Isak while their CB issues still loom large. If they don’t get Isak or at least another forward they’re going to be struggling when suspensions, injuries and the ANC kick in in January. And tonight they’ll probably be finding themselves walking into hell :?

Again, IMO, this is Arsenal’s to lose and next week’s pool v arse game will no doubt have Sky billing it as if it was the title decider
