Yeah tbh I’d rather us go for someone 6 inches taller and more physical. Why Aneke despite a not especially impressive recent record made some sense

Stick Burns up top, such as we have at kitchen sink time. To be fair to him, he was a handful.

There are only 3 good instances that I can remember of defenders moving successfully to a centre-forward position:-
Malcolm MacDonald
Warhurst
Chris Sutton.

The position is so different, not least because of the extra running involved and the change usually only happens out of desperation for just a few minutes in a game.
In recent times Man Utd have pushed Maguire forward but only because it is a club that doesn't have the money to buy a striker to sit on the bench.

We await the arrival of the much needed target man.

Mike Kearney would be a successful example of defender to striker conversion and, to a lesser extent, Steve Hetzke. Always thought Hetzke was a better defender than striker but he did a reasonable job up front in difficult times. Converting Burns might be on a par with that.

Pepe the Horseman Sounds like Marriot is happening. Not what we need imo, but feels like we've reached the "any striker will do" stage now though. Very much Sam Baldock vibes for me.

I presume he is now back in the country. Seems while on tour with Wrexham in Australia and New Zealand he had to have an emergency appendectomy and there were doubts about whether he'd be fit enough to travel back to the UK with the Wrexham squad.

Going the other way wasn't Keith Curle a winger before forging a career as a CB ?

Dion Dublin played both roles well too IIRC

3 years prob pushing it but he's a mark up on Wareham 100%.

And for those saying we need a big lump up top to hold the ball up, he's the same height as Kelman & Barrie.....

Yer I was thinking more 2 they have thrown a lot in on this one. This is all I heard off my mate to be fair and he was ex staff at the club who heard it from someone still there. So my itk career is over. Do you think this is it striker wise now?

depends how we are planning on playing really. Wing lumping the ball long? Well I hope he's brought a step ladder.

Delighted we've signed a decent finisher, I just hope he's able to hold the ball up as well.

We're clearly not planning to move to excessive wing play, with the ball being lumped into the striker's head (or we'd have gone for more of your Carroll type). I think that Marriott should fit in with the way we've been playing.

Still think we need a plan B, lump it type.

Can’t say I’m particularly enthused by this and it feels a bit desperate

But I’m sure they’ve seen something they’ve liked about the way he plays and he’s certainly experienced in the division

Just hope we didn’t spend a lot

Yes a good example Ian.
Thinking of Burns reminded me there was of course Kenny Burns who also fitted the category but our examples are over the past 50 years so there aren't too many.

BTW,a bit spooky that both Macdonald and Chris Sutton appeared at the game last night and I only posted a few hours earlier mentioning them. :o

As said before, feels like we've given up on finding the right striker and just signed any striker. Basically a repeat of Sam Baldock in 2018 and we know how that went.

Having said that, he's still an upgrade on nothing, and I liked him 5 or so years ago, so hopefully it works out.

A fair few Wrexham fans not happy with this decision and seem to rate him highly!! I for one haven't really seen him play but it seems like he's a terrier in the box type of forward with decent pace.
I guess we have to embrace him and hopefully we will be pleasantly surprised, anything North of 10 goals will be a decent return.
Pretty happy with this and i guess that is our window pretty much rapped up, and once this team gel's together i think it will be viewed as a pretty decent window. :D
