Millsy Chantstarter for years, many of them came through me and my crew but past it now.

Atmosphere has been embarrassing since we moved to the new stadium especially after reserved seating but C1871 has been a decent step in the right direction. Pity the kids don't know how to sustain a chant for long periods like we used to but it is what it is.

Southbank >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> East Stand before reserved seating >> Club 1871 >> East stand after reserved seating but before C1871

It's the best of a bad job, nothing now can ever compare with the good old days for obvious reasons. Let it stay, good job boys keep it up.

C1871 will never be The South Bank but, I think it serves a good cause in concentrating the chanting, just like most big clubs who traditionally had/have their singing behind one of the goals. Although we must be in the minority in choosing to play towards that end in the 1st half.

blueroyals There was nothing wrong with the atmosphere pre-C1871. The same people who made noise in Y26 just moved over. But with a worse view. And a significant cost to the club to reconfigure the away end. It was a vanity project nothing more as evidenced by the attention seeking fella who runs it throwing a strop on X whenever someone criticises his baby.

A fantastic post, summarised perfectly.

It's telling that more and more supporters are starting to agree with this point of view. Albeit about 4 years too late.

The right side definitely provided better chanting than the left side in the good old days.
This would be backed up by my father who BTW knew Lloyd George.

By right side of course you mean the centre of the East Stand, which was right relative to the left. The actual right side was silent. :D

Not true. After reserved seating the atmosphere of the early days of the East Stand plummeted. I have no bias here as I have nothing to do with C1871 but I think they're great and things improved.

Would I prefer the old battles of 'left' v 'right' of the East Stand? Sure I would. Are C1871 as good as we were? Hell no. But they're doing their best and we are where we are.

Hasn't East Stand always been reserved seating? I had a season ticket in there from opening and I'm sure it was always reserved

You could have a ST and it still be Unreserved at times - ie the nonST seats. Hence disputes between fans. Also, the capacity of East Stand was reduced by 1000 if Unreserved for 'safety' reasons - all arguments as to why club preferred Reserved.

In the opening season at the stadium 3 of the 23 league matches had reserved seating in the East (Luton, Man City & Fulham).
