Ideal
Ian Royal Absolutely. The media have decided to build a story out of McDermott's previous success and our history of mostly having patience with manager

And rightly so, McDermott was a good manager, and there was no reason to sack him - and even if you argued that there was the timing was completely off.

Ian Royal They're looking at it from the persepective that we were try hard relegation certainties from before the first ball was kicked, so we've met their expectations and therefore sacking McDermott was a bad decision.

And they are 100% spot on if that is their view, we were doomed from the start and if anything we have ammassed a shocking number of points, much more points than I expected - I was worried we might beat derby's record low points tally!!!

So really, you haven't got a clue what you're talking about - you are making all my points for me.

You might expect a variety of opinions, often expressed with the certainty of 'facts' I've read the comments about how BM was this that and the other thing and the tactics were shit and he fell out with players and petulantly refused to play them etc etc

All I know for sure is that days after a sacking an excellent hardworking professional man, we seem to be no closer to having a replacement or new direction sorted out! Is it really too much to expect that the owners don't appear to have a replacement primed and the new way published? at best the club looks foolish and incompetent and the comparisons being made between us and other clubs like WWFC are in the very least unwelcome.

I am getting impatient! But I want the right man for the job and I guess it takes some time if there are a few candidates (most probably is, but if not, someone please tell Anton to try knocking up an ad like below)

We may not get anywhere near 10 applicants, me included. But theres no harm in trying

We will not operate in such a way that we undermine the manager and seek to line up a replacement before he is gone. At absolute most we'll have a rough short list of potential contenders drawn up as part of contigency planning.

Until our manager is sacked / resigns he's the one in charge and the likes of Madeski, Hammond and I suspect Zingarevich will not go behind their back. The replacement process at Reading only starts after a vacancy appears and I for one am very happy with this. I'd be fooking furious if we'd be courting replacements whilst McDermott was leading the team.

Ian Royal "New Russian Owner is Ruthless and will destroy Reading!"

Well you would concede, would you not, that our Russian owner is relatively young, inexperienced, and largely unproven, especially at this level...and as such his decisions as an owner of a professional football club in the English Premier League could come under scrutiny and debate (even by Mr Mad himself, it seems). Even many of those who wanted BM gone say the move was made too late, and so there's some scrutiny right there. And even the Chelsea owner, for all their success, has always been questioned...and still is.

Ian Royal They're looking at it from the persepective that we were try hard relegation certainties from before the first ball was kicked

Which to many people, outside of Reading at least, we probably were.

Ian Royal They think McDermott did a stirling job against all odds

A case could be made that he did.

Ian Royal There are only parrallels with Wolves if we fail to appoint a manager before next season and don't win any more games this one.

So if we manage to win a game before the end of the season that means that no paralells can be made? Oookayyyy...

With all due respect Ian, this is not a corner shop till jockey's job, this is a multi-million pound, policy sensitive business and it is naive to suppose that a short, short list has not been ironed out and preliminaries examined prior to the event.

Possibily even to the extent of confidentiality agreements being signed before the club is able to discuss with prospective candidates the nature of the future plans and may even include the preparation of letters of intent and pre-contract conditions.

It's not going behind somebody's back to focus on the business being more important than the individual even if the individual concerned is as well respected by us as BM, should be.

I suspect that you or anybody else being indignant or outraged is pretty low on their agenda, besides the owner should still know if he wants us to be Stoke or Spurs and acting accordingly, is my best guess!

Well given the ones complaining about it are those whining about not having had something in place first and we've apparently only started the process after parting company with McDermott, I'll stick with my view that it's not something we'll do and be happy about it, ta.

Cool, my own view is that BM was learning and developing how to deal with the demands of the PL and given how well he has managed thus far I had every reason to suppose that if we were relegated he was an ideal candidate to get us back and consolidate our PL position, provided he had adequate resources to do so.

There is also some debate about how strong the playing staff were and were they fit for the demands of the PL, seemingly not in fact, but we would have gotten there eventually without busting the club, in the old Reading way.

We are more WBA in this respect, the expectations were way to high IMHO

However, Chelsea change managers more often than some folks change underwear, but they are 'successful' are they not? I guess you pays your money and takes your choice.

Reading ready to make fresh approach to former Southampton manager Nigel Adkins

Reading are expected to make a fresh approach to Nigel Adkins to become their new manager ahead of Saturday’s Premier League match away to Arsenal.

The former Southampton manager was spoken to last week by Reading before the club offered the job to Brighton’s Gus Poyet who subsequently stunned them by turning the post down.

The decision came as a severe blow to Reading who surprisingly sacked Brian McDermott 13 days ago – and just 33 days after he was named manager of the month - with Academy director Eamonn Dolan taking charge of the last league match away to Manchester United, which they lost 1-0.

With just eight league games to go and Reading facing a desperate battle against relegation – in 19th place and six points behind fourth-from-bottom Aston Villa - it had been assumed that owner Anton Zingarevich had a replacement lined up when he sacked McDermott.

However that was not the case, despite rumours linking Paolo Di Canio and Roberto Di Matteo, who wants a higher profile job and has been strongly linked to German club Schalke, to the post, and Zingarevich now has to decide whether he still harbours hopes of avoiding relegation or needs to appoint a manager with experience of gaining promotion from the Championship.

Adkins is understood to be unsure as to whether or not to accept the role and has spent the time since he was sacked travelling Europe and observing clubs such as Hamburg, where he has attended training.

And people said just the same about Coppell - who in my opinion was slighty the better manager and certainly proved to be so in the PL - however, he wasn't able to bring us straight back up.

Idiots. I'm sure Zingarevich has already decided that he wants to appoint a manager who can get us promoted next season from the Championship. If that same person can also keep us in the PL that will be an unexpected bonus.

Odds dropping again for Adkins (BetFair). Probably a reaction to the Telegraph article suggesting we will speak to him again next week.
