Reading are at home to Sheffield Wednesday this weekend as they look for their first league win of 2015. The Royals have picked up two points from their three league games of the year so far and are desperate for a win to stop them drifting into relegation trouble. The visitors are ninth but closer to mid-table than play-off contention, making them exactly the kind of opposition that Reading would hope to win against at home.
Danny Guthrie is unlikely to get a start despite returning from injury as he looks to further his career away from Reading. He has spent the week dishing out his agents phone number in an attempt to find a club. It's reported that the club have given him permission to try and find someone to take him on loan as he struggles to gain a starting place at Reading.
Meanwhile Reading have been chasing IFK Goteborg winger, and Danish International, Lasse Vibe and have had a bid of around one million turned down. IFK Goteborg are after closer to £2.5 million for the player and it's highly unlikely that Reading will offer anywhere near that amount - which will probably mean the deal isn't going to happen. Another player that won't be coming to Reading is former loanee Glenn Murray. Crystal Palace has offered him a new one year contract extension which he's accepted to tie him to Alan Pardew's Premier League side. With Samuel leaving on loan there's certainly space in the squad for a striker. It's more likely that any new player will be on a temporary loan deal with money so tight.
Reading are likely to be unchanged from Tuesday night's 0-0 draw against ten man Millwall. Chris Gunter may miss starting as he recovers from his injury allowing Kelly to continue in his place. Simon Cox will be hoping Clarke shuffles things around and gives him a deserved start instead of putting him on the bench. It'll be interesting in the directors boxes at the Madejski Stadium as Thai owners meet with Thai owners after Sheffield Wednesday completed their takeover this week. On the pitch Wednesday may have only won one match from the last four, but away from home they have won three out of four Championship games.
Reading's last three games against Sheffield Wednesday have all ended in defeat for the Royals. We lost 0-1 at their place in September and last season we were beaten 0-2 at home. The frustration could be set to continue for Reading fans.
